White mulberry (Morus Alba)

These are white mulberry seedlings. White mulberry is an invasive species here in VA and across much of this continent. Both native and non native mulberries have great potential as food producing species for humans and livestock but the non native white mulberry should be used with caution. Their invasive potential should be heavily considered before planting. Mulberries can sometimes produce male and female flowers on the same tree but they have a tendency to produce them on separate trees. In other words, not all seedlings will make fruit. There are many improved cultivars of mulberry known for larger berries and higher productivity. There are even some varieties which grow tastier leaves (compared to average mulberry leaves).
