Peach

Peach seedlings

It is not uncommon to grow peaches and other stone fruit from seed. Unlike apples which are very diverse when grown from seed, peaches typically resemble their parents. Seed grown peaches often tend to show stronger resistance to pests compared to grafted varieties. Peaches can produce fruit in as little as 3 years from seed.

2026 Selections

Red leaf peach

Seed collected from 2 red leaf peach trees planted at out NC site. Those two mother trees were grown from seed purchased through the Experimental Farm Network. The peaches produced by these trees are small, white fleshed, and not particularly good. The main reason we grow this type is for its stunning leaf color which is a dark red/purple. This color comes from anthocyanins which protect the leave against cold stress and insect stress. Color is most vibrant in spring and fades to a dull green by late summer.

Yellow flesh peach

Seed collected from great quality yellow fleshed peaches grown by local orchards in south western Virginia.
